寫出了他從老闆們身上所學到的20件事，還蠻有意思的
所以練習翻譯，翻的時間不多，有錯的可以一起討論

20 Things I Learned from My Bosses (Even the Bad Ones)

I’ve had more than 20 bosses in my career. I worked well with nearly all of them. Most of them were surprisingly average—even forgettable. One was brilliant and became a role model. He took responsibility when things went badly. He gave others credit when things went well. He exuded integrity and is still a dear friend. But he was the exception.

在我的職業生涯裡，我有過超過20個老闆，而我幾乎都跟他們合作愉快。一般來說這些老闆大部分都差不多，甚至是令人不會有太多印象的的。其中有一個是才華出眾，並且成為一個偉大的楷模，他在有困境的時候，一間扛起所有的責任，但是在順境的時候又不吝嗇的給予其他人讚美與嘉獎，是一個正直又相當珍貴的好朋友，但是這種人是一個特例。

One boss was malignantly incompetent. He couldn’t do anything right. I dreaded every meeting I ever had with him. He was a nice guy but burned up and checked out. I think he retired mentally about two years before the company let his body go. I was honestly embarrassed to tell anyone I worked for him.

其中一個老闆他有致命性的無能症，他一件事情都作不好，每次跟他開的會我都覺得很恐怖。他是一個好人，但是已經精疲力竭並且完全不適合了，在公司讓他離職的兩年前，他的心態就已呈現退休狀態了。我承認我不好意思跟別人說我跟他一起工作過。

Two others were downright sinister if not evil. They could be kind and charming one minute and then, an hour later, mean, paranoid, and vindictive. Though I tried hard to stay out of the line-of-fire, they both skewered me on a few occasions. I still have the scars in my psyche.

另外兩個就算稱不是邪惡也是十足的恐怖了。他們可以在這一秒鐘裡迷人可愛的要命，但是在下一秒卻變的尖酸刻薄，多疑易怒，儘管我很努力的想避開這種災難，但是有時還是會捲進去這種無妄之災中，到現在我都還心有餘悸……

Regardless, I learned from them all. Reality is that you usually don’t get to chose your boss. Sure, you can always quit. But most bosses aren’t so bad that you would actually leave the company. They are more like a low-grade headache. You learn to live with them. Besides, if you quit, you’ll miss some really great lessons—lessons that will help you be a better boss to those you lead.

無論如何，我都從他們身上學到了東西。事實上，我們通常無法選擇我們的老闆，當然，我們可以辭職；但是大多數的老闆沒有壞到讓你非離開這公司不可，他們更像是一種輕度頭痛，我們必須學習跟他們相處。另外，如果我們真的辭職了，我們會喪失掉一些真正可以讓我們成長的課程，這些課程會幫助你以後成為更好的老闆。

Here are twenty random things I have learned from my bosses. Most of the best lessons came from the worst bosses.

這裡我列舉了20件我從我這些老闆身上學到的事，更重要的是，絕大部分都是從最遭的那些老闆身上學到的。

1.Everyone on the team matters. No one deserves to be treated poorly.

在團體中，要一視同仁

2.Bosses create an emotional climate with their attitudes and behaviors.

當老闆的人往往依自己的態度跟行為左右辦公室氣氣氛

3.The higher up you are, the more people “read into” everything you say and do. Stuff gets amplified as it moves downstream.

你達到的地位越高, 人們對你的所言所做會越仔細去檢視. 事情常常會被放大

4.A word of encouragement can literally make someone’s week. Conversely, a harsh word can ruin it.

一個小小的鼓勵可以確實的激勵人，相反的一個嚴厲的話也會毀了一切

5.Hire the right people then trust them to do their job.

雇用對的人，然後信任他放手讓他作他的工作

6.Don’t ever intentionally embarrass people in front of their boss, their peers, or their direct reports.

不要公開的羞辱人

7.Don’t attack people personally. Instead, focus on their performance.

作評論，要對事不對人，焦點放在他們的表現上

8.Get both sides of the story before you take action.

做事情前，要思慮周到

9.Tell the truth, then you don’t have to remember what you said.

總是說實話，這樣就不需要去記說了什麼謊

10.Give people room to fail and don’t rub their noses in it when they do.

給人犯錯的空間，不要一做錯事就抓著直罵

11.Be quick to forgive and give the benefit of the doubt.

要很快的原諒，並且再需要時給予幫助

12.Measure twice, cut once.

13.Don’t ever ask your people to do something you are unwilling to do yourself.

自己不想做的事，也不要強迫別人去作

14.Respect other people’s time, especially those under you.

尊重別人的時間，特別是在你上位的人

15.Don’t believe all the nice things people say about you.

別人說你的那些好話，不要完全相信

16.Follow-through on your commitments, even when it is inconvenient or expensive.

遵守你的承諾，及時很困難或昂貴

17.Don’t be ambitious to get promoted. Instead, focus on doing a great job.

不要老是想要加薪或是升遷，把注意力放再把工作作完美

18.Be responsive to everyone at every level. You never know who may be your next boss.

對各階層的人都要尊重，你永遠不知道誰會是你下一個老闆

19.Keep confidences. Make no exceptions.

永遠保持自信

20.Do not complain about your boss to anyone. If you have to complain, then have the integrity to quit.

不要對別人抱怨你的老闆，如果你還是忍不住要抱怨，那就先辭職吧

這兩天在網路上剛好逛到risumfiriri的網頁，裡面有一篇文章分享了PC World列出來的：「The 50 Best Tech Products of All Time」(史上最佳科技產品前50名)

其中有些東西我有經歷過或是聽過，其中也有些看都沒看過
但是一些有歷史的東西突然從記憶深處跑出來還是蠻有感觸的。

這邊貼出來分享一下，
看看大家有沒有印象，看過或是用過幾種

1.Netscape Navigator (1994) <-----算是網路的始祖，第一當之無愧
2.Apple II (1977) <-----那這算是PC的始祖吧
3.TiVo HDR110 (1999) <-------完全改變看電視的習慣，不過台灣好像這一兩年才流行起來
4.Napster (1999) <--------P2P的始祖，也算是目前BT, 驢子都算是後進
5.Lotus 1-2-3 for DOS (1983)
6.Apple iPod (2001) <-------紅到不能再紅，讓蘋果在翻身的偉大產品
7.Hayes Smartmodem (1981)
8.Motorola StarTAC (1996) <--------10年前的手機都是水壺般大時，StarTAC卻出現了跟現在手機不相上下的Size，真了不起。
9.WordPerfect 5.1 (1989) <--------Word的祖先
10.Tetris (1985) <-------英文還不知道啥，「魔術方塊」聽過吧

18.Palm Pilot 1000 (1996) <------ Palm啊Palm啊，我出門三寶之一(另兩個是手機跟錢包)
19.id Software Doom (1993) <------Doom，轉來轉去的3D射擊遊戲，別說你沒玩過
20.Microsoft Windows 95 (1995) <------ Windows開始完整圖形化的祖先
21.Apple iTunes 4 (2003)
22.Nintendo Game Boy (1989) <--------其實我覺得任天堂或是超級馬力應該比這項更前面

很多東西我沒有看過也沒有印象
但是裡面更多東西是我有經歷過的
特別是 1.Netscape Navigator這項東西真是影響深遠，評比為第一名真是當之無愧。

還有一些比如說 16, 19, 39；在大學的時候，開始喜歡上自己弄東弄西，刻苦吃泡麵，省吃儉用，把錢省起來要買這些夢幻零件來組，沒事就會跟同學聊啥超頻，記憶體顆粒.......大學真好。

又或是 27的前身(魔獸爭霸2)，大家幾間寢室或是科系跟科系間對尬，每晚都是殺的昏天暗地，沒打時還會跟朋友一起聊戰術，記熱鍵.........奇怪，又是大學的時候，我大學真是過太爽

40的ICQ的習慣也是一直延伸到現在，只是東西變成了MSM，花樣更多了一點。

18的 Palm PDA，則是我從很久以前救開始習慣上了，印象中買的是IBM C3(Palm Vx)，也是持續用PDA到現在。

而且我們現在用的很多東西都是上面許多項目的改良，真的很有意思。

不知道大家有沒有什麼有感觸的東西勒？
